Our Story

From a gaming parlour to a Helsinki landmark

Onnellisethetket — "happy moments" in Finnish — began in 2011 as a small gaming parlour run by the Karjalainen family on Mikonkatu. The idea was simple and, at the time, almost contrarian: while the industry rushed online, we invested in the opposite. Real tables made of Finnish birch. Dealers trained in-house. A bar where the host knows the regulars by name.

By 2015 the parlour had grown into a full casino floor with 32 live tables, and the neighbouring 1920s building was restored into an 86-room boutique hotel. The two halves were joined into a single venue: a casino resort where guests can dine, play, relax in the sauna and sleep under one historic roof — all without opening a single app.

What We Stand For

A deliberately offline philosophy

We believe a casino evening is a social ritual, not a software session. That is why Onnellisethetket operates 100% offline: there is no online casino, no betting app and no remote play attached to our brand. Every chip is placed by hand, every card is dealt by a person, and every question is answered across a table, not through a screen.

The same philosophy runs through the hotel. Reservations are confirmed personally by our reception team. Wake-up calls are made by a human being. And the guest book in our lobby — paper, ink and all — carries fifteen years of handwritten notes from visitors across Finland and beyond.

Today the venue employs 74 people: croupiers, chefs, housekeepers, hosts and event managers, many of whom have been with us for over a decade. Their craft is the product we sell, and it cannot be downloaded.
